A Hairy Mess

3 Mar

I try to attend at least 3 zumba classes a week. I am finding out more and more with each zumba class I attend the more times I have to wash my hair. Monday – Wednesday I wash my hair everyday. As much as I can’t wait until the next zumba class rolls around I dread having to wash my hair three days in a row and blow dry it out, curl and/or flat-iron. In a perfect world I would only wash my hair 2 to 3xs a week. I think 3xs is really pushing it. I considered wrapping my hair with silk scarf of some sort or wearing a hat at class. I have not done so yet. Washing it three days in a row leaves my hair looking dry and is hard to manage.

Please let me know if this is a struggle for you and if so do you have a solution to my hairy mess?

B2B – Back 2 Blogging

2 Mar

Back to Blogging

I have been trying to keep my blog up to date, however, it is just not that easy. My excuse is always the same thing Life Happens we all can relate to this. I know many bloggers pull together ideas on paper before they start typing. Maybe a collection of thoughts in a diary or journal of some sort. I really need to start doing this and get myself into a daily routine of posting blogs at least once a week.

Journey

Even though I cut down drastically and even stopped at one point with the blogging I have to say my weight loss journey did not suffer one bit. We all remember when I started this journey back in January of 2010 how losing 5 pounds was such a big deal and now 14 months later and 37 pounds lighter I can honestly say not only did I make a resolution  I stuck with it though hard work, will to lose, determination to succeed, and sweat and tears provided by daily workouts and it was all worth it. I lost the weight, kept it off and decided to set another goal. I would like my total weight loss to total 41 pounds. Right now I am 4 pounds away. Yippe!

Stay tuned for weekly updates as well how setting a weight loss goal and achieving it has changed my outlook on life.

2011

10 Jan

One year ago on January 11, 2010 I chose to commit to be fit for life and now one year later I am proud to say I have lost 34 pounds and I am not finished yet.

In a year I’ve done so many firsts and proud of all of them:

I set out to lose 30lbs in 6 mths -  it took me 9mths.

Not only lose 30lbs but keep it off -I have maintain my 30lb weight loss for 12 months and just recently loss 4 more lbs.

Join a gym – I joined the first week of January 2010. Cancelled the membership 11 month later.  (Because I found ZUMBA)

I never set out to join a zumba class and fall in love with the workout – But I did anyway and I am so happy I did. Avid Zumba member Since August 2010 and going strong. No cancelling this membership for me.

2011 New Years Resolution – Lose 10 lbs by June.

Wish me luck!

Good luck to all on your New Year resolutions!! Remember only you can make the difference. Chose to commit to be fit for life!

Zumba — I love it!!!

1 Nov

I am so excited!! This time my 30 pound challenge was harder than ever before. It makes me appreciate my dedication to long workouts and rushing to zumba class each and every Friday night and Saturday morning classes. I even try to attend a Monday class if possible. Zumba has changed my life. My instructor Melissa is AWESOME (needed to cap because that is how great she is) Melissa is very enthusiastic and always having fun! When you think you can not get a routine or shake your hips like the pros Melissa will take time out and help you through the steps.  I have to admit the routines have definitely got harder throughout my 3 months of attending but it’s well worth it. If I have to miss a week of this class I go through withdrawal!! Seriously! I guess it’s because of the energy I get with each and every class. The instructor, the women, and the inches I am losing are the things keeping it all together for me.

Goal Reached

31 Oct

I reached my goal…finally!!! 30 pounds gone forever!!

Next goal — to keep it off!! And maybe lose another 10 pounds!!

Writing about my weight loss journey has definitely help me meet my goal. I enjoy updating my blog and reading other blogs too!

Tune into the 76ers game on Saturday December 4th to see me and all the Zumba crazed people performing during the 1/2 time show!!!

Busy, Busy

16 Oct

It’s been almost one month since I checked in..Sorry to my readers, but life always seems to get busy! We all know the feeling I am sure.

I have been keeping up with my Zumba classes. Trying to add an extra class in here and there. The Zumba classes are getting more intense and I feel great after every class. I hope to add two classes in per week as soon as I can. I know I will benefit from it in the long run.

I haven’t been to the gym since July :( I know I am paying for the membership but I can’t find time to go. Between work, my daughter’s testing every week and home life I can’t seem to find the time to hit the gym. That too I hope will change. A new planet fitness is opening near my job soon. Hopefully I can find some time at lunch to add some more excercise into my lacking routine.

I have hit a plateau in my weight loss journey but I am not about to stop now. 28 pounds gone forever, but I would love to post a 30 pound weight loss soon.

I hope everyone is enjoying this great fall weather. I am for sure!

Until next time – Commit to be fit for life!! and GO PHILLIES!!!!

Quick post

18 Sep

Weighed myself this morning and now I am only 2 lbs away from my first goal! 8 mths later and I still have not reached my first goal of dropping 30lbs, but I have been able to maintain the weight I did lose. 2 lbs away is such a great accomplishment thus far.

I think I owe the recent 2lb weight loss to finishing dinner before 7pm each night this week. Plus I have been sticking with my routines and loving so much my zumba classes.

Check back soon for updates.

One shake too many!

18 Sep

I have been reading a lot of fitness and foodies blogs lately and I am really excited to learn new work out sand especially try new recipes that are healthy, satisfying and delicious all at the same time. Now that school is in season my daughter is now into chilli mode. So I decided to pull out the crock post and cook a 8 hour chilli good enough to eat right out of the crock pot. Instead of making my own chilli I opted to try one from www.SkinnyTaste.com the recipe found here http://www.skinnytaste.com/2009/01/crock-pot-3-bean-turkey-chili-3125-pts.html included all the ingredients I already had in my cabinets so it was a no brainer that I would make this on Thursday morning and have it cook all day long.

So Thursday morning I placed all my ingredients in the crock pot, turned the knob to low and went off. While driving in I realized I forgot to add the chili powder. My husband who is an excellent cook told me not to worry just and it when I return home. So I did, however, I was only supposed to add 2 tblspoons and I added a few more shakes. Then I added some hot sauce stirred everything up and Whaola the most fiery dish I ever placed in front of my family!!

We were burning up all night long. I love hot and spicy food and so does my family, but next time I will remember to there is a thing such as too much!

Thanks to Gina from www.SkinnyTaste.com for the awesome recipe

Finding ME time

9 Sep

Now that school has started up again and I am a proud parent of a 6th grader I am going to be pressed for ME  time and sanity. I still have 4 pounds to lose and I don’t plan on throwing in the towel just yet. I need to work harder in the short amount of time I have. My weeks really fill up fast starting in September especially with my daughter joining fall soccer – we now can forget about Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays…or maybe not.

Tuesday and Thursday my daughter has practice for 1-1/2 hours. During that time because she is fairly new to the sport I have been hanging around the field watching her practice. I love that she wants me to be there to cheer her on, but I think I have to let go just a bit. I have to start walking during the time she is practicing. That will give me at least two hours a week just in walking.

On Mondays and Fridays I have the option to attend Zumba class. So far Fridays work out the best so I am going to stick with that. Saturday mornings will be locked in with a gym visit. I need to wake up early enough on Saturdays to try to beat the Saturday rush.

I would love to fit in some bike rides before the weather gets too bad. Maybe Mondays would be good for a 30 minute bike ride.
